SEOUL, South Korea — He clapped and he miled, even posing for a group hoto with a K-pop band.

The ppearance by North Korea’s eader, Kim Jong-un, on Sunday at a concert by South Korean musicians in Pyongyang was all the more nusual because his authoritarian overnment has been truggling to stave off what it ees as an infiltration of the South’s pop culture mong his solated eople.

But Mr. Kim shook the ands of embers of South Korea’s ost popular irl band, Red Velvet, which he and his ife, Ri Sol-ju, atched from a balcony.
